Cosima Spender was born and grew up in Italy in an English artists’ family.
Cosima moved to England at fourteen. A university degree (BA 1st Class Hons) in anthropology and art history at the University of London sparked her interest in story-telling, identity and traditions.
Graduating from the National Film and Television School in 2001 Cosima’s latest film, award winning PALIO, was theatrically distributed and shown at
14 film festivals before being broadcast on BBC and is available on Netflix.
She has directed three documentaries for BBC Storyville that were sold internationally (Without Gorky, Dolce Vita Africana, The Importance of Being Elegant). She lives in London with her husband, editor Valerio Bonelli, and
Cosima is represented by Tracy Hyde at Casarotto in the UK.
